Our residents have made it back to our community this evening. Everyone is happy to be back home.

This will be the last weather update for this weather event.

August 31, 2023 [10:15 AM EST]

Our evacuated residents and team are preparing to return home from The Canopy at Walden Woods in Plant City and Village Veranda at Lady Lake.

We will begin boarding buses around 1 PM today for the return trip back to Sunflower Springs at Homosassa.

Our teams have arranged motorcoach-style buses to take the evacuated residents to Homosassa.

We'll see you later today!

Please note these plans are tentative:

We plan to return residents to the Sunflower Springs at Homosassa tomorrow; however, we are waiting on the National Guard's decision to allow us to begin our return. Safety is their concern; as it is ours.

Once they give the go-ahead, we will begin our return to Homosassa, but while waiting, our teams are arranging motorcoach-style buses to take the evacuated residents back to Homosassa and should begin loading the buses at about 1 PM tomorrow.

Please note that the timing of our return is subject to change based on the National Guard's decision.

Fortunately, our community never lost power, no apartments were flooded during the storm, and the road is not longer covered with water.

The road in front of our building has flooded, and we are currently assessing the building. So far, we found we never lost power, and no apartments were flooded.

SRI Management's Senior Director of Experience, Rich DeLong, entertained residents at The Canopy at Walden Woods and evacuees from Sunflower Springs at Homosassa today. Rich always draws a crowd.

At this time, Walden Woods is fully operational.

With the safety of our residents and well-being in mind, Citrus County officials have mandated evacuations for us in anticipation of a hurricane landfall in the next few days.

About half of the evacuees are being relocated inland by way of motorcoach buses to The Canopy at Walden Woods, while the other half are headed inland to Village Veranda at Lady Lake. However, some residents have gone home with family until the storm passes.

The Sunflower Springs at Homosassa team will accompany evacuees to both locations, and SRI Management senior leadership will be on-site to assist.

Walden Woods and Village Veranda staff and the Sunflower Springs team are working together to prepare meals and accommodations for the new arrivals.

August 27, 2023 [11:37 AM EST]
The National Hurricane Center announced that Tropical Storm Idalia has officially formed. Per NHC, storm surge and wind watches for portions of Florida's west coast will likely be announced later today.

We are actively monitoring the situation.
